What Is a Maisonette?

The term maisonette is a French word, originating in 1818 , for "small house". Throughout much of Europe it has been used to describe a "holiday cottage".  Today, it is most commonly recognized as the "IT" property in New York City real estate.

The most notable definition of a maisonette today is; a dwelling that is part of one larger unit, typically with 2 stories, with its own private entrance and private outdoor space.
